>>’chloe reconstructed’ + stylistic + acrylic + scissors + yeah that was pretty much it <<
Here’s one of the painting’s i was aiming to get done before the end of the month. it’s based on a random chloe ad…it was sort of a spur of the moment thing..you know when you just know you’re gonna follow through w/ something even though you had your whole day lined up but you scrap that + dont think twice about it…ever….and then you realize you have more important deadlines but know that deviating was worth every “wasted” second…its like taking two steps back, one step forward
What do you think? about the painting or the rambling ? which ever one

3. ‘Short-sighted’ an acrylic painting by me
4. the painting amidst everyday addictions..
5. black + white tastes good
Based on a collage filled with magazine cut outs this painting portrays the short-sighted perception of false bravado + machismo. The shades of yellow are symbolic of the cowardice that lies masked beneath these surface deep attitudes. Following this train-of-thought I decided to highlight the skin tones of the center-front lady; in order to parallel the idea of magnifying the hidden shades of her persona, accenting her true base colors….the result adds an unshakeable tribal core to the painting. The glasses further emphasize her need for greater clarity, and the tilted, imbalanced vertical lines push this idea. Her oversized hat is literally + metaphorically an all-consuming vacuum that presents the-blind-leading-the-blind mentality; a society of individuals so concerned w/ the opinions of others that they feel impelled to copy/paste regardless of whether or not they find a trend truly tasteless. Laaaaame. For example in Mean Girls (which by the way is an AWESOME film) the Queen Bee, Regina George, finds her tee defaced. Unfazed she continues to wear it despite her bra showing through two peep holes… the school follows suite. But like I said, it’s short-lived, just like the overly bright/ripe fruit in the painting.

soooo today started at 3am, my alarm went off, + for about 5 mins i watched the silhouettes patterning against the wall as car lights went by…until eventually those gray scale color-blocks turned into soft borderline appearances at the point of sleep. fast forward to 7am; oatmeal heaven; then jumped into the pool and did what i was supposed to do yesterday; lie on the bottom with a slab of rock on my stomach, watch the surreal breaking lights + hear nothing. jumped back out, pushed my painting deadlines to next week + resolved to get it done before the end of the month…then burned time by flitting through luisaviaroma, notjustalabel (again), cooperative designs, other ppl’s blogs, burberry collections dating all the way back to lucky 2008, creatures of comfort, the porter empire, newly discovered stantonjames.com, twitter + raphael young’s head-over-heels heels. then i realized my winter clothes still needed to be bought so i ran all over till my flats wore out…so tomorrow i’m going flat hunting. Lusting for an exact replica. Black w/ a hand-tied bow.
Also, the above photos are click-able. CLICK NOW because now is the time + place to be trigger happy ♥

>>frosty, standoffish attitudes + playful textures + heavy wool draping to the mid-waist + nuances of missoni + emboldened colors + void eyes <<
I was getting all my winter clothing together for risd when i came across these photographs by achim lippoth. then my jaw dropped. the overtly textured pieces you see above are all courtesy of fashion designer ann eckers (Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Belgium). i hate to use the word ‘love’ to describe how much i am actually craving these woolen creations, but for lack of a better word.. i ♥ not only the bumpy/smooth feel + the whimsical color scheme but also the jarring monotony of the youth who blend in with the blank background. it’s ironic that a bleached background so devoid of any decor can make the viewer feel overwhelmed, and the children appear oppressed. the knowing gazes + stiff stances portray the mentality of an adult; the formal hairstyles pussssh the metaphor…. mr. lippoth usually depicts children as spontaneous + all other typical characteristics, so it is very interesting that he chooses to present them with contrasting icy attitudes. the overall effect is poignant and begs the viewer to question whether the children of these oh so modern times are maturing at an unhealthy rate? It’s also interesting that the only liberalizing element from all this white noise are the fashion pieces. this is my own interpretation but it seems that the layers of material + heavily textured clothing make up for the lack of character in these children. fashion offers this self-preservation. it transcends time + age barriers; it brings you back to a home-base of blissful naïvety. like mammoths frozen in time, ann eckers and achim lippoth are protecting + preserving these innocent children from the complexities and contradictions of modern childhood.
